South Sydney’s Elliott Road are definitely at their best when their sound is jam-packed: fuzzy distorted guitars, reverb-soaked vocals, and messy studio artefacts. (You can tell how much fun the band is having by the sheer amount of laughing and yelling in the mix.) The first two tracks are the best here: “Breathe a Little Deeper” has a killer chorus, and I was in love with “Grocery Line” from the first listen— it’s one of those songs that you can have on repeat for hours and not get sick of. The synth work really makes this one stand out too. An early contender for my top song of January.

Comparatively, the last three tracks don’t make too much of an impression — nevertheless this is an EP I can’t stop listening to, and is the product of a band with so much more to give. I’m keen to hear more from their new project Toy Saints.
